Why use essential oils?

Voo-Doo or Snake Oil?

I was a skeptic, and I meet other skeptics almost every day. Why do we look at oils with raised eyebrows but have no trouble believing we’ll have “better living through chemistry”? When you look at how many modern meds found their basis in plants, you’ll see that you’re looking at the majority of bottle we reach for without a second thought. Not that there aren’t modern options we need – but I think it’s important not to overlook the benefits of using holistic options too.

Essential or aromatic oils have been used by cultures around the world for thousands of years. One of the most unique aspects about the history of essential oils is that they seemed to have been developed independently by different cultures as they saw their unique value. From being used in medicinal treatments to the overall improvement of wellbeing, essential oils have had a wide number of uses and popularity. (1)

 Check out some oil history:

Egypt: Egyptians used plant-based products in beauty treatments, food preparations, burial rituals, and religious ceremonies.
Greece: In ancient Greece, men like Homer and Hippocrates explored the aromatic uses of plants, building on discoveries made by early Egyptians.
Rome: Ancient Romans often used plant extracts for massage, perfume, and scented baths.
Iran: In medieval times, people in the region of Iran often used and traded spices or resins for perfumery and maintaining health.
India: Ayurvedic medicine, a holistic healing system native to India, has developed over the span of 5,000 years and includes the use of aromatic and plant compounds.
China: For centuries, traditional Chinese practices have included the use of plant materials to promote wellness.
France: Rene Gattefosse, a French chemist, is credited as the first to coin the phrase “aromatherapy” as he studied and researched essential oils thoroughly in the 19th century.(2)

So can they help me even with all the issues I have?

The answer is a resounding YES

As you explore this site,  you’ll find lots of info, DIY recipes, science, and testimonies so I won’t go into too many specifics here. But, yes, oils can be a huge part of your wellness routine. They can help ease stressful and anxious feelings, lift your mood, support restful sleep, and help with healthy immune function and inflammatory response. Massaging tired, sore joints & muscles brings great relief, you can breathe easier, think clearer, ease an occasional headache, and a whole lot more. All with tools that are extremely safe when used as directed and simple to have on hand whenever you need them.

Ever had to run out to the store in the middle of the night?  Yeah, me too. Now just open up my oil box.

And we haven’t even mentioned how effective and money saving they are for cleaning and personal care…..

What if you’re as clueless as I was at first? Not to worry – for those who become part of my oil community,  you get loads and loads of help and support. Pretty soon you’ll be rattling off the best oils to use for your carsick toddler, your worn out feet, or that smell that you just can’t get out of the house.

BUT……there are about 1,000 different brands to there. How do I know what is best? Let me share a bit about why I use doTERRA

Why choose doTERRA essential oils?

I’m often asked why I chose doTERRA oils. Let me share a few of the reasons with you:
  • the consistent high quality of the oils
  • the integrity of the owners
  • the support and education opportunities available
  • Co-Impact Sourcing
  • Healing Hands Foundation
  • Their Business Opportunity and Compensation Plan
  • the culture and community

Quality matters — everything you put on or in your body affects your health. Make sure it’s a POSITIVE EFFECT

Many of you may not be aware that there is no industry quality standard for essential oils. The FDA does not regulate grades of oils, so you can find oils out there in a huge range of quality. Companies can say they are “therapeutic grade” but it really doesn’t mean anything. In fact, I’ve heard doTERRA criticized for their CPTG trademark (Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade). Yes, it is their trademark, and they make no secret about it. It is their promise to every customer that they will go the extra mile to make sure that every oil is pure, without synthetic fillers, without the use of dangerous fertilizers or pesticides (making them beyond organic). This promise also includes a close relationship with the farmers to insure crops are harvested at the right time, as well as with the distillers to make sure that time, temperature and pressure is correct.

Every batch of oils is sent to through multiple rounds of third party testing to check and double check the quality of each oil. To my knowledge, this is far beyond what anyone else is doing. If a batch doesn’t meet their standards, they do not use it. Check out “Source to You” for even more information!
